On August 28 2021, AUC and the AUCAA welcomed back 80 alumni for the AUC Homecoming event. The event primarily honoured the Class of 2020, to give them the chance to reunite after not having an in-person graduation last year. This event was made possible by a close collaboration between AUC and the AUCAA.

During the event, AUC’s new Dean, Martin van Hees, introduced himself to the alumni, many of whom had already graduated from AUC before Martin began his tenure as the Dean. In his word of welcome, he emphasized the value of community and expressed how happy he is to see enthusiastic alumni engagement in the AUC community.

This event was also a special moment for the AUCAA. During the event, we welcomed Thao Lam as the new Chair and thanked the previous Chair Julia Keizer for her work as she passes the baton.

The reactions to the event were positive. An alumnus from the Class of 2020 said: “Although I don’t think anything can really make up for the graduation that we missed, it was very nice to see some familiar faces and reconnect with people that you used to see every day and suddenly got cut off from because of the pandemic. I hope we will get more opportunities to connect to the AUC community as alumni.”
